Foreword

This article refers to a prerelease demonstration of this game. The version that is sold on Steam may differ.

Gameplay

Shoot girls (with euphoria!) The bulk of the game is about shooting-up waifus, not unlike those zombie-shooters you’d find in an arcade — but instead of head shots, you aim between the legs! As you fill your foes with sweet, sweet ecstasy you’ll earn “Doki Dokis”. Doki Doki’s allow you to engage a single woman, prodding her up close. If you fill her “Doki Doki” gauge within the time limit, you’ll unlock rewards! At the end of each level is a minigame. There are a variety of minigames to complete, but they all require a combination of skill and timing with your aim. The demo I played only had four minigames, but I imagine the full release will have more to offer.

Sound

The soundtrack is upbeat and totally catchy. It won’t take long for it to get stuck in your head! Unfortunately, part of the reason why that’s so is because it’s super repetitive. I can safely say, this not a game you want your parents to hear; if mommy doesn’t know any better, you’re gonna get busted before you bust a nut! I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many moans in such rapid succession. On that topic, dialogue and moans are just as repetitive as the music. It’s a real shame, because trust me — you’re gonna be hearing a lot of moans! While I’m complaining, I wish there was more control over specific sound effects. I’d like to be able to toggle the gun sounds independently from say, moaning sounds.

Story

I’m absolutely clueless what this game is about. You’d think one could learn about the “plot” from the store page, but you’d be wrong. From what I could glean from the game, the main protagonist is a total pervert with a gift from the angels — it would appear he has the power to make any girl swoon before him (with some sort of gun. . . could it be a gal gun?)

Bah! Do the developers expect me to play part one first?

Visuals

The titlescreen looks and feels professional. . . I like it! From “Options”, you may adjust a variety of audio, control, display and language preferences. I’m satisfied with the degree of user-freedom, but I would have liked to have seen a way to adjust graphical settings (such as Anti-Aliasing or visual effects). I enjoyed the in-game visuals, but they struck me as dated. It’s not that they are bad, but they seem a little underwhelming for a game released in 2021. However, I greatly appreciated the gratuitous panty shots! Boy golly, videogame physics are the best! But you know what would be better than panties. . . ? Pussy!

The Goods

Panties, panties galore! As a matter of fact, there is a “grand total of 423 types of panties are waiting to be discovered!” I. . . I didn’t test that number. I’ll have you know I have a life! The full release of the game will also include more than 250 CGs (which if I’m not mistaken, are tied to “Doki Dokis”). Unfortunately, no nudity or sexual content will come with the base game. . . DLC anyone? I hope Gal*Gun Returns will support some form of modding.

When I shoot a school, I expect to see bare naked ladies! Oh wait

Verdict

Wait for a sale. I had fun, but to be honest, I wasn’t impressed by the demo. Gal*Gun Returns is a novel game, but I expected more. The audio and minigames are extremely repetitive. There is no nudity or sexual content whatsoever. Gal*Gun Returns falls under an interesting catagory; it’s too tame to be “lewd”, but it’s too lewd to appeal to the average player. It’s clear that the version I played was lacking a great deal of content. Based on what I read about the full release, there is a wealth of collectable characters, panties and CGs to unlock — that sounds awesome! However, if the gameplay and variety of levels remains the same, the grind may not be worth it. Gal*Gun Returns is a promising title, but I’m left disappointed by the demo.
