Foreword
I received a free copy of this game for review purposes — thanks Nyanco Channel!
Gameplay (3/5★)
Choose a difficulty setting and play a round of Minesweeper! I can’t be bothered to explain the mechanics (because to be frank, I’m still not sure how to play). I recommend reading an article from someone else (like this one!) Whenever you lose or win a match, you’ll be treated (or punished) with a CG featuring Nyanco Channel‘s very own mascot! As cute as she is, I wish there was a quicker way to retry levels. It’s frustrating to lose because it takes so long to click through everything!
Story (1/5★)
There is no story (and I’m not making one up!)
Visuals (3/5★)
The titlecreen is very cutesy! There is no main menu — it’s straight to the level-select screen. There is no way to adjust user-preferences, such as audio or display. The application can be borderless fullscreened via the “F4” key. There is no gallery.
Nyanco Mine – Happy Pack [DLC]
This DLC offers each CG as 816 x 624 PNGs. In a sense, it’s kind of like a gallery!
Verdict (2/5★)
Though the gameplay isn’t awful (albeit unremarkable), I don’t recommend this game for one major reason; you can’t close it. This is really, really sketchy — as a matter of fact, I uploaded the EXE to VirusTotal, an online tool to “analyze suspicious files”. The file tripped a few trojan warnings, but I suspect they are false positives. Windows Defender did not have any issue with the game files, and I know Steam does a good job analyzing software before they sell it. I’m not claiming Nyanco Mine is malware, but considering this game has been around for six months that’s unacceptable. Nyanco Mine is a good game if want to support Nyanco Channel. . . but if you’re a Minesweeper fan, there’s probably better games out there.
