Foreword

I received a free, prerelease copy of this game from the developers. The product sold on Steam may differ from the copy I reviewed. Thanks Seito Games!

Gameplay

Shoot balls past the goalie and score! You may choose between ten nations, but (to my knowledge) your choice only affects the visuals. The goal of the game is to kick balls into a goal; guarding that goal is a goalie, and a wall of waifus. The goalie will actively pursue your shots, while everyone else will lifelessly stand and watch. As you score goals, the game will automatically progress into new nations (slightly changing the overall appearance).

Story

There is no story (and I’m not making one up!

Visuals

The titlescreen and user-interface are clean and refined; they kind of look like something out of a high-budget release. From “Settings”, you may adjust audio preferences. The settings menu is hilariously empty — there might as well be no “Settings” at all! I don’t understand the overall game aesthetic; it looks as though the developer just mashed together various sci-fi and soccer-themed assets. On the brighter side, the game is appealing to look at!

The Goods

There is no nudity. I appreciated the wide variety of outfits and skin tones though!

Verdict

Wait for updates. Free Kick X is fun for maybe the first ten minutes. Kicking a ball around the same two obstacles gets old fast. I thought I was in for a game of sci-fi soccer ball with half-naked waifu — that sounds awesome! There needs to be more interesting gameplay. With a few additions, I think Free Kick X could be a fun little game. Until then, I would wait for a light sale.
