I received a free, “EARLY ACCESS” copy of this game for review purposes — thanks BadCat!
Gameplay: published December 27th, 2021 (2/5★)
There doesn’t seem to be an ultimate goal — only a list of optional objectives. You’re free to visit eleven rooms (including your own). They aren’t usually interactive, but as long as you enter a room with somebody in it there may be some dialogue to string you along. Objectives hinge on you being in the right place at the right time, but you won’t be prompted when and where to be. Advancing in Furry house is mostly luck and guesswork.
Sexual Content: published December 27th, 2021 (2/5★)
After playing the game for roughly an hour (and skipping lots of repetitious dialogue), I didn’t see a single sex-scene involving the protagonist. It doesn’t take long to see nippy-slips, but they’re nothing to write home about. I was more aroused by the situation than the visuals; there’s something thrilling about incest and voyeurism.
The artwork leaves a lot to be desired. The models of Furry house are average at best, borderline uncanny and lacking visual effects. Realistic “furry” characters are difficult to render because of how much fur they have. When you take shortcuts on rendering hair in a realistic setting, the end result isn’t great. The hair is either mismatched and plastic-y. You can tell BadCat mish-mashed assets to create the cast — that’s perfectly fine (as long as the end result looks good), but the idea is to not make it obvious!
Story: published December 27th, 2021 (2/5★)
Without showing the main protagonist, you’re immediately prompted to name them. I ended up naming him after my (female) fursona. Everyone then referred to him as “Wombae”, hardly a super stud’s name!
Without room and board, the main protagonist is forced to stay with his mother and stepsisters. With nothing to his name, he needs to get along with new family — but that’s easier said than done when they’re all hot furries!
The writing isn’t great. Everybody talks like they eat paint chips offscreen! It’s like the writing team only had a day to write the script (without auto-correct)! I figured it was a bad translation, but it appears the game only comes in English. If Furry house is translated, it’d be silly not to offer the original version under “Languages”.
The protagonist’s family welcomes his human body with open arms (or in aunt Imogen’s case, open legs). However, his bitchy little sister “Bonnie” hates his guts. She treats everyone like shit, prompting the main protagonist to get to the bottom of her bitchiness. Then there’s Bob, an angry pig that invited himself to the house. Refusing to leave, he threatens to evict the family when they bother his TV time! As the protagonist deals with Bonnie and Bob, he finds his place as the newest member of his furry family!
Sound: published December 27th, 2021 (1/5★)
There is no sound — not even arbitrary sound effects while navigating the user-interface. I’m sure I would have muted the music if there was any, but BadCat didn’t even try.
Visuals: published December 27th, 2021 (3/5★)
I did not enjoy the 3D models, but I have to give credit for the user-interface. Since Furry house uses a pre-existing, good framework for UI, navigation isn’t terrible. Navigating the gameplay is another story; it’s not clear what’s interactive and what’s not. This problem is exacerbated by an overall lack of player agency. Each screen only offers between one and zero points of interactivity (and that includes any possible characters in the room!)
Verdict: published December 27th, 2021 (2/5★)
I had a few chuckles, but most of them were from the bad spelling. As long as you don’t think too hard about the story, there’s some enjoyment to be had spying on furry sisters. Unfortunately, the writing and visuals are well below-average. I figured if the game was just a few dollars, but after viewing the asking price I’m a little insulted. Given the playtime and rough state of the game, I think a more reasonable price would be five and under. Even if were reasonably priced, Furry house isn’t worth the effort the right now.
