Gameplay

Load in a model, and watch her watch you from comfort of your screen! The main star of DesktopMMD3:Miss Fish is Miss Fish herself — however, she can be replaced by a wide variety of models, made available from Steam Workshop. If you have the knowhow, you may convert .MMD models to replace Miss Fish. If one isn’t enough, you are able to load multiple models at the same time. Each model is mildly interactive, but the “interactions” are unremarkable. By clicking on your pets, they will choose from a variety of canned responses, and they all pull from the same pool (however, the pool can be modified by disabling or downloading animations). You can download music tracks, which come packaged with designated dances.

Story

There is no story (and I’m not making one up!)

Visuals

There is no titlescreen. Following the loading screen is the control panel — if you don’t see the application window, try checking your taskbar. When minimized, it is automatically relegated as a sort of “background” process. A variety of display and graphical preferences can be adjusted, and music volume can be adjusted as well. When a model is loaded, her behavior can be somewhat affected; you can select her animations, and toggle when then walk around. Though you can tell them to “auto wander”, they will seldom move on their own. Downloading new content is snap from the control panel; it’s as easy as clicking “Subscribe” on your favorite content from the “Workshop” panel.

The Goods

The base game contains no adult content. However, numerous nude models can be found on the Steam Workshop. Some of them have jiggle physics, but the quality is hit or miss (and usually miss). Most of the models I downloaded had broken physics, distorted meshes and missing textures — I suspect this has something to do with incompetent modders, or updates that broke previously functional content. Even when I did manage to secure functional, nude models, there isn’t much to see. It’s not like they’ll give you a lap dance or something. . . although, I’d very much like that.

Verdic

Wait for a sale or updates. DesktopMMD3:Miss Fish is an unremarkable desktop pet, but that can change with increased interactivity and modding support. There’s a wonderful selection of avatars on the Steam Workshop, but they are nothing more than reskins; regardless of model, your pet will maintain the same interactivity. Beyond her physics and offhand walking animation, Miss Fish isn’t very interesting. It’d be great if she enjoyed a wider suite of “passive” actions; perhaps, she could listen to music on her own accord, or perhaps she might address the player directly, demanding attention. I hope to see new development on DesktopMMD3:Miss Fish, but until then I’d consider waiting for new development.
