Gameplay (4/5★)

Turn-over and match pairs of like-cards to reveal images (and unlock CGs!) At first, you’ll only have to deal with six cards — by the end of the game, that number will be forty-eight. I found the difficulty progression to be a gentle incline, but there’s no way to skip levels. . . unless you’re willing to get a little creative. If you modify a file called “Save.bin” (using a TXT editor) within your AppData, you can enjoy the content (minus the effort!) The file may be located in the following address:

[Drive Letter]:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\FlapBox\HCMemory\Save.bin

Simply set the change the values of “mapsUnlocked” and “mapsCleared” to “48” and there you go — you’re welcome!

Story (1/5★)

There is no story (and I’m not making one up!)

Visuals (4/5★)

The titlescreen looks great (but it doesn’t exactly convey “hentai”). I enjoyed the user-interface and gratuitous heart effects. Whenever you match a pair of cards, they’ll explode into colored hearts (and it makes you want to see how many hearts you can invade the screen with!) From “Options”, you may adjust audio and display preferences. Unlocked CGs can be viewed from the “Archive”, which doubles as a level-select screen. The user-interface can’t be hidden.

The Goods (3/5★)

There are forty-eight static CGs. Twenty-six offer nudity, and four (of those twenty-six) show sexual content. The artwork is very high-quality, but there are no consistent characters, styles or aspect ratios. Some of the images are literally unfinished — I have a strong suspicion Hentai Collection: Memory is just somebody’s gallery.

Removing Censorship

To enable nudity, you’ll need to modify “options.ini” inside your AppData. For Windows users, I suggest searching “%appdata%” from the Windows search bar. The file may be located in the following address:

[Drive Letter]:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\FlapBox\HCMemory\options.ini

Once you locate “options.ini”, you’ll want to open it (using a TXT editor) and a line that reads “ShowCensoredImages”. You want change this line to “ShowCensoredImages:No” to disable censorship.

Verdict (3/5★)

I stick by my original verdict: “I strongly disrecommend paying full price for this game.” Hentai Collection: Memory is a decent memory game with lots of content, but the gallery falls short. After publishing my first review for this game, the developer reached out to me. I complained about a lack of nudity, and he politely corrected me (with instructions on how to uncensor the game). I didn’t bother to update my review (and I should have linked his guide in retrospect) but. . . why did he make removing censorship so complicated? Even if Steam was less lax on adult content at the time (they weren’t), I don’t imagine it’d be hard to release a patch in the form of DLC. Hentai Collection: Memory didn’t impress me then, and it doesn’t impress me now.
