Gameplay
Devilish Girl is another generic swippy-swappy game. There are a total of thirty stages, with varying difficulty. The first fifteen stages are rated “easy” (capping at forty pieces) and the other are rated as “hard” (capping at eighty pieces). Any stage can be instantly completed with a press of a “check” button.
Yes! This is a game you can play one-handed!
Story
There is no story (and I’m not making one up.)
Visuals
The titlescreen is strangely formatted, but otherwise serviceable (as is the user-interface as a whole.) Audio and display preferences can be adjusted from the “gearbox” button on the main menu. The audio cannot actually be muted — after “muting” the game, a select few sound effects continued to play. The user-interface cannot be hidden when viewing CGs in the gallery — please make the interface toggleable developers.
The Goods
There are fifteen (static) CGs to unlock. If we’re gonna get technical, there’s thirty — but half of them just have marginally different backgrounds. I liked the artwork, but at the same time, I’m skeptical that most people would consider it fap-worthy. It’s stylistically drawn in black ‘n white, using cross hatching and heavy shading, techniques I associate with traditional ink works. As an ink-artist myself, Devilish Girl‘s art style appeals to me.
Honestly, it’s too bad HENTAI-X studios hasn’t published more games with the same art style.
Verdict
Though somewhat flawed (and frankly unremarkable) I do recommend this game. Given the price tag, there are quite a bit of puzzles to solve, and a decent number of CGs to see. I personally enjoyed the artwork, and it certainly sets Devilish Girl apart from similar titles (which typically utilize a strictly anime art style). My main complaints are regarding user-preferences and the ability to toggle the user-interface. Still, Devilish Girl is unique game for a great price. I’d pick it up if you run out of cheap-puzzle games, or when it goes on sale.
