Foreword

I received a free copy of this game for review purposes — thanks Hentai X!

Gameplay: overview (3/5★)

Unscramble images to reveal provocatively posed women (or just enjoy the gallery!) There are ten base puzzles, and five promotional puzzles. The “promotional” puzzles offer content from other Hentai X games (so you’ll know what to buy next!) You may choose between three difficulty settings; the first offers fifteen, sixteen pieces; the second twenty-four or thirty-six; and the third up to fifty-four pieces.

Sexual Content: overview (2/5★)

There are ten base, static CGs (fifteen if you include the promotional content). The artwork is alright, could be better. Each picture offers a single, seductive lady against a draped backdrop. There’s a distinct lack of “hentai” — it’s more like softcore porn.

Story: overview (1/5★)

There is no story (and I’m not making one up!)

Sound: overview (NA/5★)

I played this game muted — I won’t be judging it by audio quality.

Visuals: overview (3/5★)

The titlescreen looks wierd. I’ve nothing against naked ladies, but the image appears to be warped. Audio can be toggled from the music note icon. The upper-right screen delivers assorted advertisements for Hentai X‘s other games. The present icon will take you to a series of bonus puzzles that use artwork from similar titles — honestly, it’s a creative way to promote oneself. Images can be viewed from the “play button”, but they cannot be fullscreened. Even if they could, their one-to-one aspect ratio would prevent them from filling the screen. The background and user-interface are stock and boring (not unlike every other generic puzzle game).

Verdict: meh (2/5★)

This was a conveniently easy game to write about; having the full gallery unlocked from the get-go saves me from a lot of effort. Hentai Waifu is a mediocre puzzle game that failed to impress me in any way. I’ll be happy to forget about this game, but it’s not a bad buy if you enjoy swippy-swappy puzzles. It’s reasonably priced for the content, and the inconsistent difficulty will keep games interesting. Considering the number of pieces involved at the hardest difficulty, it’d be nice if there was a save system. My biggest complaint would be the gallery itself; it can’t be borderless-fullscreened. I guess Hentai X has to push their “Image Pack” DLC somehow huh?
