Foreword
I was excited to play this game. It’s one of the few games that I know of to feature lewd scalies, or anthropomorphic reptiles. Think “furries”, but a little less fluffy and more coldblooded.
Gameplay
. . . in a nutshell
A basic platformer with high quality, unlockable CGs and animations. You collect keys and spam fireballs to unlock rhythm stages, where you must input the correct order of keys to advance (and ultimately unlock) sex scenes.
out the shell. . .
You navigate an open world, which is divided into distinct ares; each area features four levels. There are two types of levels, platformers and rhythm — ers. In platformers, you must collect four or more keys and artifacts before reaching the end of the stage. In rhythmers, you must mash keys in the correct order to advance a sex scene.
By far, rhythm stages were the most boring part of the game.
You have two moves at your disposal; a short range, single shot fire ball; and a powerful, wide-range burst attack that renders the user temporarily immobile. The latter has limited uses, but can be replenished with collectible blue bottles. Combat is simple, and hardly challenging. When you die or fall off a ledge, you respawn at the nearest check point. Each area features the same three enemies, leaving each stage distinctly lacking in variety.
. . . and no, this is not a game you can play one handed.
Story
There is no story. Moving on.
Visuals
The titlescreen looks great! It’s coherent, colorful, and for the most part the user-interface looks good. You may adjust audio, control, display, and language preferences from the main menu; there is no dedicated “options or “settings” prompt. You may enter multiple galleries from the “Start Game” choice; you’d think the galleries would be accessed from the main menu, like most lewd games.
The Goods
There are thirteen static CGs to unlock, and multiple sex animations. The artwork is awesome! I loved it, and I don’t even like furries or scalies! The sex animations are a little choppy and repetitive, but otherwise very well done. Because they are linked to a minigame, they are off-centered, which bothered me when viewing them in the gallery.
. . . expect female and male-on-female sexual content.
Verdict
I recommend this game when it goes on sale. The artwork and visuals are spot-on; unfortunately, the gameplay is simply too underwhelming for me to wholeheartedly recommend this title. However, if you are on the market for a low stress platformer with top notch anthro artwork, Salubrious Scales has got you covered!
