Foreword
I received a free copy of this game from the developer. I appreciate their generosity, though I still find it silly when developers hand me what I consider “memeware”. At the time I played Hentai Warfare, I don’t think I rated a single memeware game “positive” on Steam. Although, hadn’t I received a free copy, I would have bought on release (and certainly gave a negative review).
But gesture is deeply appreciated nonetheless.
The thing is, Hentai Warfare isn’t that bad. It’s actually a great concept with some cool features that I seldom see in memeware. I loved having AI teammates, it made the game feel more alive, and it was cool watching squads from both sides develop. The randomized outfits were a delight, and the randomized weapons helped spice-up each firefight. It wouldn’t have taken much to make Hentai Warfare is a worthwhile buy. It’s a shame the game was abandoned after it was released.
Gameplay
Kill every (blue) waifu that moves, die, respawn, rinse and repeat. Every game is the same; you spawn (at a single predetermined spot) and you shoot anyone who ain’t colored red. You are backed by a team of friendly AI comrades, and both teams’ kills are tallied at the top of the screen. There are three weapons at your disposal, a rifle, shotgun and sniper. Each match is endless, and the game only stops when you close the application.
Story
You’re entered some sort of digital purgatory, locked into a ceaseless toil of boobs and bullets. It’s red team vs blue team, and there’s no escape.
Visuals
The titlescreen kind of scared me. It showcases a a very uncanny background, a set of unnatural and slow moving anime girls. That aside, there’s no options that can be altered, not even sound settings. The user-interface isn’t minimalistic, it just sucks. I have a stark feeling that I’m playing another asset flip. The stock nude anime girls look. . . strange. I can’t put my finger on it, but their radioactive eyes and cheek blush isn’t helping. There is little variety between characters (beyond a few articles of clothing).
The Goods
There’s boobies. Not good boobies, but they’re there if you look hard enough. It’s kind of up to the RNG Gods whether or not anyone spawns without a top.
Verdict
I don’t recommend this game, but my opinion doesn’t really matter anymore — you literally can’t buy this title on Steam anymore. The developer yanked it from the store without disclosing why. But trust me, you’re not missing out on much. Hentai Warfare could have been a great piece of memeware with a little bit of refinement, but instead we got stuck this hunk of junk.
