Ask a Wombat! 077

Bemused asks about Fi da Booty Samurai. . .

Sadly, I have been avoiding steam forums, after having been banned there once. (I was later unbanned and even got congratulations from steam moderators for some of the posts which I had been banned for… but I am not eager to repeat the experience. (And there are too many personalities involved for me to know how to make sense of such issues.))

But I have reviewed your instructions, and I can confirm that when I select Save from the File dropdown of the resource.assets window of uabae, I have never been prompted for a file location. So I have never seen anything which corresponds to this image: https://wombattrap.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/explorer_GEnuswIAPAC.jpg Possibly this would have been a consequence of myself not having done the work you have done in modding the game?

Meanwhile, the game has advanced to version 0.86. I have not yet attempted to install your mod against that version. (I am tempted to try updating uabea to be robust against version changes of this sort.

Commonly Asked Questions

How are games scored?

I rate software using up to five guidelines; “gameplay”, “sexual content”, “story”, “sound” and “visuals”. Each of these guidelines are divided into smaller sub-guidelines, which differ between genre and availability.

For example, I typically have more to say about “story” when I’m analyzing a visual novel than I do when writing about puzzle game.

I rate each category on a scale of “one” to “five”; a “one” is really bad, a “two” is “meh”, a “three” is average, a “four” is good, and a “five” is exceptional. The final score (or “verdict”) is an average of all guidelines.

Why is this game rated "X" but not this one?

Scores mean different things for different genres.

I don’t consider a “5/5” puzzle game to be a better game than say, a first-person shooter. In my opinion, it’s unfair to rate all software equally. What makes a puzzle game fun won’t apply to any other genre.

In an effort to maintain an objective stance when I publish ratings, I only compare like-games when I deliberate scores.

I wouldn’t rate an RPG poorly because a visual novel I played doesn’t feature “grinding”.

Will you review "X"?

If you’re a developer on Steam, send your game to the Wombat Trap Curator.

Otherwise, use the following contact form to get in touch or send suggestions. I’ll get to them when I get to them.
