Foreword
I was given a free copy of Sir’HaXXX from the developer. He’s actually a pretty chill guy, and I’m glad he gave me some copies of his games (even if my opinion isn’t always stellar.)
Gameplay
This is a typical shoot-’em-up. You avoid projectiles, collect power-ups, and shoot baddies. The goal of the game is to collect “data”, dropped by enemies and obstacles upon destruction. There are thresholds of data to collect, which will unlock CGs in the gallery. However, your data is reset with each playthrough — which means if you want to unlock the full gallery, you’d best get good.
Also, I hope you know how to use a mouse (since there are no keyboard controls.)
Most shoot-’em-ups grant little room for error, allowing the player to be hit only one or two times before losing. This game, however, grants a very generous health bar, which can be replenished by “shield” power-ups. Many enemies will home and fire directly at you, and the number of enemies on-screen will steadily increase. Given the number of data you need to collect, chances are, you’ll be needing your whole shield.
Story
Sarah is streamer, and she’s a glutton for leaked nudes. She regularly rears her personal files to the technologically inclined, and you’re the savviest of the tech savvy. You created a program which you dub Sir HaXXX, which provides a game-like interface while you hack. Where others have failed, with Sir HaXXX at your fingertips you want to claim the prize for the sauciest booty of them all.
Visuals
The titlescreen looks pretty good, and the user-interface is attractive. “Start Hacking” will begin a new game, and “Data Hacked” functions as a gallery. The “Help” option will bring up a tutorial, and there are leaderboards to showcase your HaXXXing skills. There doesn’t not appear to be any way to adjust user-preferences, which is kind of an oversight.
The Goods
There are a total of eight (static) CGs to unlock. I thought they looked. . . alright. My biggest problem with them by far was the fact they are rendered in a portrait style aspect ratio. In other words, the CGs will not fill the screen.
Verdict
For the price and gameplay, you can’t go wrong — I do recommend this game, if you’re willing to look past its shortcomings. The adult-content and gameplay is a little bit lacking, but I think it’s definitely worth a dollar. I would have liked to have seen some more accessibility, such as the ability to “carry over” data between sessions.
