Complete images by “painting” them (one color at a time!) Your time and supplies are limited, so it’s important to act fast and work with some refrain. As you complete images, you’ll earn “hints” to help you choose the correct colors. Alternatively, you can use your “magic” brush to skip guesswork — but your magic is super limited! There are awards tied to levels of completion, which are each recorded (in case you’re one of those wierdos that cares about “high-scores”).

Story (1/5★)
There is no story. The main protagonist is you, a skilled anime artist. Each character is named, but there is no written content about them. It’d be nice if there were some bios.
Visuals (3/5★)
The titlescreen is nicely arranged. I enjoyed the stylistic interface, which hammers home the “artist” theme. From “Options”, you may adjust audio and language preferences. Unlocked CGs can be seen from the “Gallery”, but the user-interface can’t be hidden. If the “18+ Patch” is installed, you cannot toggle between SFW and NSFW renditions of CGs.

Anime Artist – 18+ Patch [DLC]
This DLC unlocks “Hot Mode”, which allows you remove clothing from subjects once you’ve sufficiently painted them. The nudity isn’t half-bad, but it’s kind of stressful using Hot Mode while you’re timed.
Anime Artist – Ultra Lewd Pack [DLC]
This DLC adds six sexual CGs. The artwork is markedly different from the core game’s, which kind of blows. It’s decent, generic anime sex, but I was more interested in the characters of Anime Artist.
Verdict (2.5/5★)
Buy the sequels (and not this game). Anime Artist isn’t a terrible game, but it’s pretty boring. The biggest thing this title has going for it is modding support, but the modding community isn’t looking too hot. Anime Artist 3: Harem and Anime Artist 2: Lovely Danya are stronger titles with improved gameplay and voiced actors. Skip this game, and consider the better versions.
