Gameplay (3/5★)
Explore the world as you bond with a childhood friend (and secret lover) Ryoka (or neglect her and get cucked!) The goal of the game is unlock all four of her “memories” before the end of summer. Every thing you do is timed, so it’s important to act quickly and minimize transitions between areas. By engaging in a variety of activities (with or without Ryoka), you’ll increase your “abilities” (which contrary to the name, are merely a currency to unlock Ryoka’s memories). As you go about your summer, so will Ryoka — and everybody wants a piece of her! If you’re not careful, her affection (or “mental stats”) with other men could blossom into newfound love! Don’t forget to periodically check Ryoka’s journal. . . she leaves it out for a reason!

It’s summer break — more specifically, it’s Keita’s last summer before they part ways at Seaside School. Until August 31st, Keita is boarding with his chilldhood friend, Ryoka. Ryoka has harbored a secret love for Keita, but her own gross insecurities have prevented her from confessing her love. Unless Keita realizes his own love for her, Ryoka’s fate will be decided by her village; her body is a prime candidate for the “village ritual”! If she isn’t swooped by the ritual, another man will surely take her hand!
Visuals (4/5★)
The titlescreen and menu and attractive and animated — they look nice. From “Options”, you may adjust audio and gameplay preferences. The application can be borderless fullscreened via the “F4” key. When you beat the game, you’ll unlock a “recollection” selection that functions as a gallery. Unfortunately, you have to unlock all content legitimately — unlike other Kagura RPGs, you’re not able to unlock the contents of the gallery after beating the game once. A lot of content is not available from “Recollection”, mostly offhand nudes and groping scenes. Overall, the game looks quality, but it doesn’t visually stand-out among other RPGMaker titles.
The ‘Goods’ (3/5★)
There are seventy-two sex-scenes in the game (I think). Funny thing is. . . I didn’t see a single sex -scene during my first playthrough — but I did see a little bit of sexual harassment! It’s important to note sexual content takes some work see, and it plays no part in the main gameplay. As long as you neglect Ryoka (and don’t skip any days), she may form a relationship with or more other dudes. By visiting the journal in her room, you’re able to play any saucy scenes that she has experienced so far. Each sex-scene is comprised of a dialogue and a single, static base with variations for climax and progression. The artwork is very high-quality, but full-art CGs are uncommon. Unless you’re aiming for the “good ending”, the goal of the game is to get cucked — nearly every sex-scene is about the protagonist getting cucked by one or more of his male rivals. There’s sexual-harassment, but I’m unsure if there are any rape-scenes in this game.

Wait for a good sale — and don’t expect any sexy stuff. From what I’ve seen, Scars of Summer is one of the more tame games I’ve played from Kagura Games. It’s kind of hard to unlock sexual content, and you won’t even get to experience it unless you go out of your way to visit what seems to be a randomized gallery by the end of your playthrough. As a sexual game, Scars of Summer kind of sucks — but as a “slice of life” and surprisingly wholesome story, it’s alright! Normally, I have a hard time recommending Kagura Games‘ RPGs due to their depravity. If you’re a fan of being “cucked” Scars of Summer offers a sex-lite, casual game with a focus on story and dialogue. However, this game gets monotonous quick. After an in-game week or two, I wanted to skip to the end of summer. It’s boring waiting to be cucked. . . I wanna get cucked in a jiffy!
