Chapter One: Introduction

I received a free copy of this game from Hentai works. They wrote,

Try this game out.
You can skip the puzzle using “Enter” Key.

T-thanks, I guess?

Chapter Two: Gameplay (3/5★)

Section One: Overview

There has to be a way to catagorize this kind of puzzle game — but it’s a numbers game. The idea is to start on one point of a grid and draw a line to fill each tile without overlapping. As the difficulty increases, the grid changes in shape and pre-assigned tiles force you to fill the grid in a increasingly convoluted ways.

Shown below is level three. The numbers “1”, “5” and “12” are predetermined in location. As you can see, I connect tile “1” with a line that connects to tile “5” in such a way I can draw a line and connect it to tile “12” to complete the puzzle.

Section Three: Balance

I had no problem blitzing my way through the bulk of the game. I’m not exactly “puzzle inclined”, but in spite of my inexperience I was able to at least guess my way through levels effectively. There were only a few puzzles towards the end of the game I was genuinely stumped by.

Someone slightly smarter would have probably blitzed them.

Section Four: Controls

Hentai Tales: Monster Girl Tamer only requires your mouse curser, making this title a truly one-handed game. Your arrow keys may be used to navigate gallery for convenience.

Shown below is the one level I couldn’t complete.

Chapter Three: Sexual Content (2/5★)

Section One: Content

There are twenty unlockable images and story blurbs.

Section Two: Implementation

After completing a puzzle, an image and text wall is revealed.

Section Three: Interactivity

Beyond cycling through images, there’s no interactivity to speak of.

Section Four: Quality

Hentai Tales: Monster Girl Tamer utilizes AI to populate its gallery. Unfortunately, as a result the unlockable images are riddled with mistakes characteristic of AI generation; from deformed bodies, twisted hands to extra pupils, the more you look the worse it gets. But as long as you squint and bang back a few drinks. . .

I’m sure you won’t notice!

Shown below is one of the better images available. As you can see, there are a lot of additional folds bodies shouldn’t have, and there appears to be a third breast. Her fingers are warped and the trees in the background are choppy.

Chapter Four: Story (2/5★)

Section One: Overview

Hentai works writes,

One day you were suddenly hit by a car and found that you had traveled to a different world and had super powers. Then there are many beautiful girls in the world with humanoid shapes, so you plan to conquer them with your own abilities. What will happen there? (1)

Section Two: Plot

Kirito awoke in another world with monster girls after sustaining a serious injury — another Isekai.

Section Three: Characters

There’s Mitorin, “a black elf in the forest, who often wanders in the forest and hates humans.” There’s Tarunya, “a spider monster girl.” She likes to ” Her eyes have the ability to enchant, making people who fall into her territory become her captives. She often uses this ability to “capture human men and extract their semen.”

Suddenly I’m not so scared of spiders.

Then there’s Usabi, “a bunny monster girl with cute bunny ears and a furry body.” Apparently, “she is worried that she is in estrus, but there is no one of the opposite sex around.” Interestingly, Hentai works didn’t write a blurb about the final characters, the Gemini Twins. From what I gather, they’re demons with a foot fetish.

That’s all you need to know, that’s all I need to know.

Section Three: Writing

The writing is serviceable. I wouldn’t rate it any better than a bad fan fiction, but it gets the point across and it’s coherent. . . most of the time.

Chapter Five: Sound (1/5★)

Section One: Soundtrack

I enjoyed the backing stock synth beat. . . all one track, anyways. Until I got bored. I tried not to pay attention as much as I could for the sake of the review.

Section Two: Sound Effects

Navigating each puzzle is nice and clicky! But whenever I dragged my cursor where it wasn’t allowed, I was reminded of how uninspired this game was as some cheesy ERR-ER invaded my headset.

Chapter Six: Visuals (2/5★)

Section One: Title Screen

I feel like I’ve seen this title screen a hundred times before. It’s clean and functional, but generic as they come.

Shown below is the titlescreen.

Section Two: User Configuration

Players may adjust audio, resolution and language preferences via the gear icon.

Section Two: Navigation

Frustratingly, puzzles cannot be replayed because there isn’t anyway to choose between unlocked images, restarting levels or resetting save data.

Section Two: Graphics

The user interface and gameplay graphics are technically polished, but thematically they are nonsensical. Neon lights and indistinct purple gradients have nothing to do with the material — monster girls. Whatever image is overlayed onto each puzzle is the only reminder you’re playing a hentai game.

Chapter Seven: Verdict (2/5★)

If you’re in the market for cheap puzzles and quick achievements, Hentai Tales: Monster Girl Tamer is an inexpensive source of completionism and thumbnails for your Steam profile! I like how Hentai works made an effort to offer characters with some backstory, which sets this game apart from other shovelware. But if I want to view mid AI monster girls, I think I’d rather browse Pixiv — where AI girls are dime a dozen thousand.

Performance

My computer didn’t break a sweat.
