Gameplay: overview (3/5★)

Install malware software and “hack your targets [sic] webcam!” The bulk of the game is a basic shoot-’em-up. Before unlocking this gameplay, you must first complete a point-‘n-click sequence. As you navigate “GreatherOS”, you must download and toggle the appropriate applications in order to unlock the “Hack-Her” program. The GreatherOS interface offers a handful of shout-outs and miscellaneous features, but once you’ve unlocked the second half of the game it’s pretty much vestigial. By defeating foes and chaining kills, you’ll unlock lewd CGs! As the game progresses, an increasing number of enemies will spawn. When you die, it’s game over. You’ll have to try again from the beginning! Be on the look-out for “Hacks” — you can never have too many hacks!

Gameplay: wombat complains

It’s fun to explore GreatherOS, but there isn’t much to see. As-is, it’s more a nuisance than a fun gameplay sequence. I love the idea of a faux downloads and internet browsers, but there needs to be more exploration and creative content. Otherwise, “GreatherOS” could (and should) be relegated a fancy menu or “bonus game” — not a necessary prerequisite to the actual gameplay. It’d be interesting to access the heroine’s computer, perhaps viewing her browsing history or “private photos”. I would have loved to read mock forums, or discover the “Hack-Her” software through comedic trial and error. Once you play a round of “Hack-Her”, you’ve pretty much played every round of Hack-Her. You’ll unlock content based on performance, but each game is similar to the next. I wish there was more variety than “add more enemies over time”. Better yet, I wish GreatherOS had more influence over the “Hack-Her” game, perhaps in the form of additional content or powerups. For a game about hacking, you don’t to “hack” very much!

Sexual Content: overview (4/5★)

There are seven unlockable, static CGs. These CGs are displayed as you defeat enemies (along with assorted, naughty video clips). Take care not to get too distracted by the background as you hack away! However, the CGs viewable post-gameplay don’t come with audio. I enjoyed the stylistic artwork — it’s a big improvement from the first entry in the series. I very much enjoyed how sloppy the uh, “heroine’s” pussy is! The artwork isn’t half-bad, but the gallery is pretty small.

Sound: overview (4/5★)

GreatherOS comes preloaded with a music player! There’s a selection (and by “selection” I mean two) of chill beats, but they weren’t my style — I turned them off after a brief listen. GreatherOS itself offers a handful of “systemy” sounds, but I think it would benefit from a few additional audio effects. The “Hack-Her” software offers a few surprisingly intense tracks. They would be more appropriate for a high-octane first-person shooter (but as the difficulty level increases, they become more fitting). As you rack up points, you’ll hear a series of moans and dirty quips. I found them a little off putting, but then again “sexy-talk” isn’t my thing.

Story: overview (3/5★)

There is no in-game exposition, so I thought I’d hit the store page for more information. GreatherGames says “Explore your new desktop, choose your wallpaper, listen to music, check out the web and even install applications.” Woah GreatherGames, I can even install applications? Then he says, “Now having your very own desktop, who could imagine.”

Yeah GreatherGames, who could imagine?

From what I gather, the “hero” of Hentai Hack-Her is you — and you’ve got a brand new PC with GreatherOS installed (how unfortunate). You’re also single and ready to mingle — but not everybody is ready to mingle too. Thankfully, with the help of the “Hack-Her” software, you won’t need to go on any dates too see boobs and goopy lady lips!

Best of all, “she will never know” — that makes it okay!

Visuals: overview (4/5★)

The titlescreen is thematically appropriate — it’s a mock login screen. Audio can be adjusted in-game. The “Hack-Her” titlescreen is visually stronger than the main titlescreen, though it offers no adjustable user-preferences. From “Data Received”, you may review unlocked CGs. CGs are rendered in a 1:1 ratio, and they can’t be fullscreened. I thoroughly enjoyed the overall visual theme of Hentai Hack-Her. It’s stylistically consistent (though a few amateurish graphics took me out of the moment). GreatherGames needs a better computer-graphics artist! There are a few cameos from his close pals (but I found them to be way too obvious). They feel more like paid promotions than fun Easter eggs. Speaking of cameos, where’s my cameo GreatherGames? All you need is a like, a wombat! Then again, that might be too hard for the GreatherGames team to draw. . .

Verdict: worth a short (3.5/5★)

If you enjoy laid-back shoot-’em-ups, Hentai Hack-Her is worth a play. Otherwise, I don’t think you’ll enjoy this game. Hentai Hack-Her would benefit from a few content updates and accessibility features. GreatherGames did a good job crafting a virtual desktop that functions similarly to a real one. Unfortunately, it feels completely unnecessary. I think it’s a great idea, but as-is it doesn’t offer enough gameplay or incentives to be a worthwhile addition. It’d be great if it was less a barrier to the actual game (or “Hack-Her”) and more a companion. GreatherOS is a novel idea, but I suspect some gamers will be off-put by the point-n’-click gameplay. The shoot-’em-up gameplay wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t a significant improvement over Sir’HaXXX. As a matter of fact, barring GreatherOS Hentai Hack-Her feels like a reskin of the first game (but it definitely looks and sounds better!) Thankfully, both are decent shoot-’em-ups — but both suffer like-problems. These games require some skill (and if you don’t have it you get no boob!) It’s like how Hentai Hack-Her tries to break the mold, but I think it needs a little more content. GreatherGames is good about updates — I’m sure he’ll improve this title.
